The physicians at the Surgical Center of the Treasure Coast are committed to providing the highest quality of medical care. Dr. Powers
Dr. Mark Powers, the founding member of Florida Orthopaedic Specialists, is a board-certified and fellowship trained orthopaedic surgeon who received his undergraduate and medical degrees from Georgetown University. He completed his general surgical training at Georgetown University Medical Center and his orthopaedic surgical training at Brown University, Rhode Island Hospital. Dr. Powers received subspecialty training in Sports Medicine at the Salt Lake City Center of Sports Medicine in Utah, and completed a fellowship in Total Joint Replacement and Adult Reconstructive Surgery at the University of South Florida in Tampa.

Dr. Powers specializes in the repair and reconstruction of injured and arthritic joints, and offers the most recent advances in total joint replacement, arthroscopy, rotator cuff surgery, and anterior cruciate ligament repair. He is one of the pioneers of the muscle sparing surgery of the hip and knee, which results in significantly less pain and a much faster recovery to normal activities.

Dr. Powers developed the St. Lucie County Sports Medicine program and served as the physician for the Golden Bear Golf Tour. He was a member of the St. Lucie Medical Center Board of Trustees and Medical Executive Committee.

Dr. Robert Forster received his medical degree and completed his orthopaedic surgical training at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey. He completed a fellowship in Hand, Microvascular and Upper Extremity Surgery at the University of California at Davis. Dr. Forster treats hand and upper extremity injuries and deformities including the wrist, elbow and shoulder. He provides specialized care for carpal tunnel syndrome; wrist arthritis; rheumatoid arthritis of the hand, wrist and elbow; small joint replacement; and nerve, tendon and bone injuries. He performs open and endoscopic carpal tunnel release. In addition, he treats elbow and shoulder disorders and performs wrist and small joint arthroscopy.

Dr. Forster was awarded the illustrious Jospeph H. Boynes award for his research in the care of hand disorders at the American Society for the Surgery of the Hand. Dr. Forster is a member of the American Society for Surgery of the Hand. In addition to his board certification, Dr. Forster received his Certificate of Added Qualifications in Surgery of the Hand.

Dr. Robert Sellards received his undergraduate studies at Oglethorpe University in Atlanta, Ga. He attended medical school at the Medical College of Georgia and completed his Orthopedic Residency at LSU in New Orleans, LA. After residency, he completed a Sports Medicine Fellowship at Rush-Presbyterian St. Luke’s Hospital in Chicago, Il. Dr. Sellards specializes in the arthroscopic and reconstructive surgery of shoulder, knee, elbow and hip disorders. He also specializes in the treatment of articular cartilage disorders.

Dr. Sellards was the Chief of Sports Medicine for 5 years at the LSU School of Medicine. He was also Program Director for the Orthopaedic Residency at LSU. He is currently an Associate Professor for the FSU School of Medicine and an Assistant Professor for the LSU School of Medicine.

Dr. Sellards is a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgery, the Arthroscopy Association of North America, and the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine. He routinely teaches and lectures nationally on the treatment of sports injuries. He has served as team physician for the University of New Orleans, medical director of the NCAA division 1 men’s basketball championship and women’s volleyball championship, medical director of the New Orleans bowl, medical director of the AAU championship, and the Jefferson Parish Football Medical Director.

Dr. Johnson
Dr. Paul Johnson is a board-certified and fellowship trained orthopaedic surgeon who received his undergraduate degree from Tulane University and went on to earn his graduate degree from Columbia University. He received his medical degree from Mount Sinai Medical School/NYU, and then completed his orthopaedic surgical training at Albany Medical Center. Dr. Johnson received subspecialty training in Foot and Ankle Orthopaedic Surgery at the prestigious fellowship program at Union Memorial Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland.

Dr. Johnson served in the United States Navy as an orthopaedic surgeon where he earned the rank of Lieutenant Commander and received several decorations for meritorious service.

Dr. Johnson focuses on treating conditions affecting the foot and ankle, including arthritic conditions, tendon and ligament disorders, and fractures. He has a special interest in treating in sports-related injuries and conditions, flatfoot reconstruction, and bunion/hammertoe corrections. He offers the most advanced options in ankle arthroscopy, ankle joint replacement, and in treatments for arthritic conditions that preserve motion.

Dr. Mondo
A graduate of University of Miami and University of Miami School of Medicine in Florida, Dr. Mondo did a Flexible Internship at Highland General Hospital of Oakland, California. His Orthopaedic Surgical Residency at Alton Ochsner Medical Foundation in New Orleans, Louisiana.

He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons.

Dr. Mondo was formerly Chief of Surgery at St. Lucie Medical Center and served on the Board of Trustees for St. Lucie Medical Center. He is also a former Orthopaedic Consultant for the Los Angeles Dodgers farm team.

He began practicing medicine in St. Lucie County in 1983.

Dr. Mondo received the Legacy Award at St. Lucie Medical Center.

Dr. Shute is a Board Certified Orthopaedic Surgeon. He completed his Residency in Orthopaedic Surgery at the Cleveland Clinic. His Fellowship training was accomplished at the University of Texas’ Houston Health Science Center/ Baylor Medical Center. His training encompassed state-of-the-art procedures in joint replacements, arthroscopy, fracture care, and the treatment of foot, ankle, and knee disorders.

Dr. Shute is trained int he newly developed ConforMIS Partial and Total Knee Patient-Specific joint replacement surgery.  He has extensive experience with muscle sparing hip and knee replacements technique, resulting in less pain and faster recovery time for the patient.

Dr. Shute is a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgery and a member of the Florida Orthopaedic Association.  With over thirteen years of experience, Dr. Shute is available to provide quality care for all of your orthopaedic needs and is on staff at Martin Memorial Hospital, St. Lucie Medical Center, Lawnwood Regional Medical Center, and Tradition  Medical Center.

Dr. Weidenbaum
Dr. Wayne Weidenbaum has been practicing Pain Medicine and Anesthesiology in Palm Beach County since 1992. He received his medical degree from S.U.N.Y. Health Science Center at Syracuse. He remained at S.U.N.Y. H.S.C. at Syracuse to complete his internship in Internal Medicine and Residency in Anesthesiology. During residency he trained in Pain Management under Dr. P. Sebastian Thomas, a nationally recognized expert in the field.

In 1992 he joined the anesthesiology department at Good Samaritan Medical Center in West Palm Beach, Florida. He is a diplomate of the American Board of Pain Medicine and the American Board of Anesthesiologists. He has continued to expand his scope of pain practice by attending numerous seminars and courses about the newest developments and techniques in the field of pain medicine. He has strong interest in interventional pain management techniques such as radiofrequency lesioning, spinal endoscopy, spinal cord stimulation, and programmable morphine pump implantation.

Roberto Lugo is a graduate of Yale University School of Medicine where he obtained a degree with honors in Molecular and Cellular Biology. He also completed a Sports Medicine and Arthroscopy Fellowship participating in the care of professional athletes.

Dr Lugo is a board certified orthopaedic surgeon with additional board certification in Orthopaedic Sports Medicine. He specializes in the care of sports injuries, cartilage preservation, and less invasive joint replacement.  His research has been published in peer-reviewed medical journals and has been presented at several Orthopaedic Society meetings.  He is a diplomate of the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery, a member of the Arthroscopy Association of North America and the American Orthopaedic Society of Sports Medicine.

Dr. Lugo enjoys films, physical fitness, sketching and was previously a cartoonist. Dr. Lugo is married and has two children; he spends his free time enjoying family activities around the community.
